NORMAN NIE, VISIONARY POLITICAL SCIENTIST AND ENTREPRENEUR, ELECTED TO AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
Pioneered study of Internet and society; serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Knowledge Networks Board of Directors
Menlo Park, CA; April 23, 2009: Norman Nie – a celebrated entrepreneur and leader in research about public opinion, voting behavior, citizen participation and the Internet's effects on culture – has been selected for membership to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an independent policy research center whose members are leaders in academic disciplines, business, the arts, and other fields. Nie cofounded Knowledge Networks and currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Nie was selected to the Academy in the Political Science, International Relations, and Public Policy category; the new class of 231 elected and honorary fellows will be inducted on October 10 at the Academy's headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Now Research Professor in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University, and Director of the Stanford Institute for the Quantitative Study of Society, Nie has made important contributions to the study of political behavior, social change prompted by information technologies, and the changing meaning of educational attainment. He has authored or co-authored many books and articles and has twice won the annual Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the best book published in political science.
Nie and Douglas Rivers founded Knowledge Networks in 1998 to bring statistically valid research to the Internet. Nie has remained a member of the company's Board since.
