YELLOW PAGES ASSOCIATION HONORS KNOWLEDGE NETWORKS/SRI'S MICHAELS WITH STANZE INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION AWARD
Cranford, NJ; May 4, 2007: The Yellow Pages Association this week presented Burt Michaels, Knowledge Networks/SRI's Senior Vice President for Yellow Pages Research, with The Stuart Stanze Individual Contribution Award. Michaels was co-winner of the prize with Sue Hume, who retired as Executive Director of Marketing for AT&T Advertising and Publishing and is now with The Hume Group LLC.
Created in 2005, the Stanze Award is given each year for contributions of individuals on behalf of the Yellow Pages industry. The award was presented to Michaels at the annual awards dinner that concluded this year's YPA annual convention, held in Las Vegas. Founded in 1975, the Yellow Pages Association (YPA) is the largest trade organization of a print and digital media industry valued at more than $26 billion worldwide ($15 billion in the U.S.).
In nearly 30 years devoted to directory research, Michaels has come to epitomize a commitment to the highest standards of media-usage research, as well as to working intensively with all players in the directory community to meet their research needs. His industry knowledge helped lead to the introduction of KN/SRI's Yellow Pages Market ReporterSM, the only source of statistically reliable information on consumer use of specific Yellow Pages directories.
"We are extraordinarily pleased that the YPA has formally honored Burt for his remarkable efforts and passion for the industry," said Simon Kooyman, CEO of Knowledge Networks. "Burt has been a tireless advocate for quality that results in accurate measurement of Yellow Pages usage, and he has helped build industry consensus about research best practices throughout his career. He is one of my favorite examples of the extraordinary quality and service that Knowledge Networks stands for. We congratulate Burt on this award and his exceptional achievements."
Michaels began his career at Statistical Research, Inc., in 1969 and helped establish SRI as a media research industry leader in consumer survey cooperation. He began directing YP usage studies in 1978; study topics have included nationwide YP uses and trends; usage of specific YP product/service headings; tracking of YP ad campaigns; and use of electronic (Internet) YP's. Michaels also was instrumental in a 2000-01 program to improve response rates for the RADAR® network radio ratings service, then owned by SRI. Prior to joining SRI, Michaels worked at the A. C. Nielsen Company and the advertising agency Young and Rubicam. He received a B.S. degree in Marketing from Syracuse University.
